Decalogue to move safely in the Covid era

12 recommendations for moving house in a pandemic

Moving in times of covid-19 is possible! It is only necessary exercise caution and use a little common sense.

We always recommend that, to undertake a move, it is preferable to make the effort to hire a team of professionals endorsed by a serious company. They take care of almost all the tasks and give you absolute assurance that it will go well, especially if they give you a "transfer plan" with the details of what is going to be transported, schedule, routes and details. It can be the difference between suffering a martyrdom or having a pleasant and enjoyable experience.

However, also it may be interesting to embark on a home move on your own. Who does not live it, does not know what it is.

If you decide to get into trouble independently and you have been able to recruit a group of faithful porters, keep in mind that we are in a health emergency and that it is required follow a set of guidelines so that it is not our health that moves from us:

a) Before the move

1) If you enter to live in a dwelling recently inhabited by other people, find out, if you can, about the health status of previous tenants. If they have recently suffered from the coronavirus, please ask them to ventilate the house well or, if possible, to leave it as disinfected as possible.
2) Plan the packing, unpacking and transport of each thing to respect the appropriate safety distance.

3) Collect enough boxes that you need to move your belongings and make sure that no one else touches them, or if they do, take the measures discussed in the next points.

 b) During the move

4) If on the day of the move, you or someone from your support team has symptoms of Covid-19 Report and delay the transfer!
5) Keep in mind that the departure or destination location may be confined or have time restrictions and limit activity to them.

Thus, Bring with you a document that justifies the reasons for the transfer such as a rental contract, sale contract, receipt of the contracting of the carriage, etc.
The latter, although not mandatory, could help avoid sanctions or problems with the authorities at checkpoints.

6) Use an fpp2 or fpp3 type mask, both you and the rest of the support team. Never take them off in closed spaces, except for the minimum necessary to hydrate, or eat something quickly and whenever you do, make sure that the place is properly ventilated.

7) Use gloves to handle all the objects to be transported, especially when touching door handles, railings, elevator buttons, etc.

Change them frequently or disinfect them with hydroalcoholic gel.

Avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose during the transfer Or if you need to, wash your hands with soap and abundant water or with the gel.

8) Respect the social distance of more than 1.50 m as far as possible, including in elevators and stairs. If they are narrow, let only one person enter at a time.

9) Use a transport trolley to be able to move bulky and heavy belongings without the need for help, avoiding physical closeness.

10) Do not get into a vehicle where you are more than 1 person, unless they are your cohabitants and if it happens, ventilate it frequently.

c) After the move

11) Carefully clean the space you are moving into, especially, those areas of physical contact and that have been manipulated during it, such as handles, electrical appliances, books, etc. Pay special attention to the bathrooms.

12) Wait at least 48 hours before disposing of the packaging boxes in a paper and cardboard collection point., since someone else could pick them up and eventually get infected.

Don't let covid-19 stop you from moving home and starting a new life!
